NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An Alaska man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for smuggling 405 pounds of marijuana to Nashville from Phoenix.

Federal prosecutors said Friday that Allen Paul Richter, 65, of Ketchikan was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Todd Campbell for flying a private plane loaded with marijuana on Nov. 27, 2004.

Prosecutors said the plane had a suspicious flight pattern that caught the attention of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency in Riverside, Calif.

The agency notified authorities in Nashville that the plane was en route to the small John C. Tune Airport.

The marijuana was crammed into the passenger compartment of the Cessna, officials said.

Richter told officers he was in Nashville to look at commercial property.
