We four children of Fred Chambers would like to thank the community of Soldotna and the Peninsula Clarion for their involvement in honoring Fred's life. We also want to give our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Central Peninsula Hospital.
Fred passed away on Aug. 31. He would have been 90 on this Sept 25th. Many of his family were planning on being in Soldotna for his 90th, so we all came early when he went into the hospital here.
He started flying in Alaska in 1939 then flew for American Airlines for 37 years. He retired to Soldotna in 1977 at age 60 to fly for MARC, which he did for over 20 years. He helped to found the Kenai/Soldotna Rotary Club, was on many boards and was committed to the community of Soldotna. It was our pleasure to watch and hear the community honor him in word and song at his service.
The Sept. 7, the Clarion editorial cartoon by Chuck Legge, "God's Speed Fred Chambers," of him flying into the sunset in a MARC plane heading toward Mount McKinley left us speechless. What a marvelous tribute.
Thank you to all the Citizens of Soldotna for making the last third of Fred Chambers' life heaven here on Earth for him.
