The Kenai River Brown Bears moved to third place in the West Division of the North American Hockey League on Sunday with a comeback, 3-2 victory at Dawson Creek.
The Brown Bears are now 5-5-1, good for 11 points. Fairbanks, at 7-1-2 with 16 points, is in first place, while Wenatchee (Wash.) is in second place with 12 points. Dawson Creek is 3-6-1 for seven points, and is tied for last place in the division with Fresno (Calif.).
After 11 games, Kenai River will finally take to home ice on Tuesday, when Fresno comes to the Soldotna Sports Center at 7:05 p.m.
On Sunday, the Brown Bears came out and outshot Dawson Creek 15-10 in the first period, but neither team was able to score.
Dawson Creek got on the board quickly in the second period. Troy Petrick scored just 53 seconds into the frame, while Jason Wark followed with a tally 28 seconds later.
From that point on, Kenai River goalie Josh Benton and the defense would shut the Rage down to allow the comeback. Benton ended up with 32 saves.
Bobby Murphy started the comeback for the Brown Bears with a power-play goal, assisted by Sean Muller and Ryan Walker. The Brown Bears were 1-for-2 on the power play, while Dawson Creek was 0-for-4. It was the third goal and sixth point of the year for Murphy.
Just 1:20 into the third period, Chris Rial tied the game on the second assist of the afternoon from Muller. It was the fourth goal and eighth point of the season for Rial.
Connor Wright notched the game winner for the Brown Bears with 6:13 left in the game. The assist went to Brett Lubanski. It was Wright's second goal and fifth point of the year.
