FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board has approved a resolution opposing the statewide 10-mill property tax cap. The board voted unanimously to urge Alaskans to vote against the measure in November.

Rick Lonn, a representative of the Fairbanks Council of PTAs, noted that the group opposes the measure and urged the board to do the same. He said people should look beyond the ''lower taxes'' title of the measure and see the consequences if it passes.

''There are a lot of reasons to oppose the tax cap,'' Lonn said.

School board member Bart LeBon also noted that the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce board of directors recently came out unanimously in opposition to the measure as well. ''The business community is completely opposed to this,'' LeBon said.
