Tennessee could be looking at 0-3 start

Posted: Friday, October 05, 2001

The Tennessee Titans, thought to be one of the NFL's top two or three teams at the beginning of the season, are in danger of an 0-3 start.

The Titans go into Baltimore on Sunday to play the Ravens -- who are fresh off a confidence-building victory in Denver. That win came after Baltimore was upset in Cincinnati, and seemed restore the brashness to the Super Bowl champions

But this is more important for the Titans, who lost at home to Miami and in Jacksonville.

''We've got 14 games left, and we're treating this as a 14-game season,'' said Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair.

He has bone spurs in his throwing shoulder that could result in surgery. But McNair is expected to start Sunday.

The Ravens are favored by 4 1/2 points.

Take desperation.

TITANS, 13-12

Green Bay (plus 3) at Tampa Bay

The Packers are 3-0. Teams that aren't good enough to go 4-0 don't. The Packers are good enough but ....

Not in Tampa.

BUCS, 18-16

Minnesota (plus 3 1/2) at New Orleans

Bad matchups up front for the Vikings on both offense and defense.

SAINTS, 24-14

San Diego (minus 3) at Cleveland

The Brownies' defense has been good against Ty Detmer and Mike Quinn.

Not Doug Flutie.

St. Louis (minus 11 1/2) at Detroit (Monday night)

Monday night blowout before next week's Dallas-Washington ratings-drop game.

RAMS, 37-10

Carolina (plus 6) at San Francisco

Chris Weinke's OK. The running game and defense are bad.

49ERS, 27-17

Washington (plus 14) at New York Giants

Haves vs. have-nots of the NFC East, Part 1.

GIANTS, 34-3

Arizona (plus 14) at Philadelphia

Part 2.

EAGLES, 34-3

Dallas (plus 19) at Oakland

If the Raiders were in the NFC East, this would be Part 3.

RAIDERS, 34 ... no, 44-3

Cincinnati (plus 6) at Pittsburgh

Heinz Field finally opens. A test for both teams.

New England (plus 10) at Miami

The Dolphins rebound.

Kansas City (plus 10) at Denver

Back in form.

BRONCOS, 33-14

Chicago (plus 3 1/2) at Atlanta

Maurice Smith isn't Jamal Anderson, but he's good enough against the Bears in the dome.

Jacksonville (off) at Seattle

The Seahawks might get Shawn Springs back and start Trent Dilfer.

Assuming Mark Brunell plays ...

JAGUARS, 22-10

New York Jets (minus 4 1/2) at Buffalo

The Jets can't stop the run.

Doesn't matter here.

JETS, 24-9

Last Week: 7-7 (spread), 8-6 (straight up)

Season: 26-16-1 (spread) 29-14 (straight up)
