Attorney general should release memo on North Slope litigation

Posted: Tuesday, October 05, 2004

OK. We now know a few things. Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich betrayed Alaskans. His ethical failures forced him from his high paid oil and gas commission job.

And, not surprisingly, Gov. Frank Murkowski blamed the media for the public backlash.

But what about the infamous "Mintz memo"? That's the state's confidential legal memorandum discussing North Slope oil and gas litigation. Ruedrich broke the memo's confidentiality when he leaked it to industry lawyers at the firm of Patton Boggs. Yet Attorney General Greg Renkes -- our chief law enforcement officer -- still won't let Alaskans see the memo.

The gang that can't shoot straight should level with Alaskans. It's about time.
