In keeping with the Montessori philosophy of community service and civic responsibility, the school spent last Friday afternoon cleaning up the city of Soldotna public parks as well as the middle school and high school grounds. The students, staff and parents gathered for an all-school picnic at Farnsworth Park. The students gathered pledges of a penny per pound of trash picked up. The proceeds will help pay for field study trips to study the local community, the peninsula and important cultural areas of Alaska.
The staff would like to thank the parents for their support in helping with the community cleanup day. They also would like to thank Three Bears, the Soldotna McDonald's and Tesero and Kurt Eriksson for their generous donations.
The staff and academic policy committee held its first parent meeting. The APC members were introduced and the volunteer drive was initiated. The teachers hosted a curriculum overview and awareness in their classrooms. They would like to thank Kaladi Brothers for the coffee, the parents who made cookies and Lindsay Dudley for helping with the baby-sitting during the open house.
