Soldotna resident Gary Von "Trucky" Andrus died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 in Holladay, Utah. He was 76.
A memorial service for Mr. Andrus and his wife, Shirlene Mann Andrus, will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 at the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Marydale Avenue in Soldotna.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 at Holladay Memorial Park in Holladay, Utah.
Mr. Andrus was born in Murray, Utah on June 20, 1934 to Raymond Orson and Carrie Christensen Andrus. The youngest child of a large and close-knit family, he grew up in Holladay, Utah surrounded by love and laughter. He attended Olympus High School, and served in the U.S. Army.
On February 4, 1955 he married Shirlene Mann. Gary and Shirlene moved to Alaska in 1967 where they raised their family in Soldotna. Gary and Shirlene loved living in Alaska and made many lasting friendships at work and in the community. Mr. Andrus was a master storyteller who would talk of Alaskan hunting and fishing trips whenever they traveled to Salt Lake to visit their family and long time friends.
Mr. Andrus was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, with whom he spent 55 wonderful years; brothers Don, Kirk, Bud, Niles, and Steele; sisters Gwen and Carol; and his grandson William Daniel Andrus.
He is survived by sons, Michael and his wife, Marquitta, Dan and his wife, Sylvia, and Tony and his wife, Leigh; grandchildren Josh Smith and his wife, Crystal, Keaton and Aaron Andrus, Liam and Sarah Andrus, Tony and Randi Kaser; and great-grandchildren Haley, Kaitlyn and Makenna Smith; and sister Beverly Handy.
