WASILLA (AP) -- Wasilla voters picked grocery store salesman Robert Sande in a write-in race for a City Council seat, city officials announced Friday. The write-in contest came after no one filed for the seat in time.
Sande garnered 70 votes to runner-up Pat Hjellen's 53 to win the three-year term on the council.
Just more than 300 votes were cast Tuesday. All had to be hand-counted.
Three other candidates got five votes or more. And there were 131 votes for more than two dozen other residents, each getting four or fewer votes.
