Homer man graduates basic training

Army Private Ryan J. Buster graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo. During the training, Buster received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, rifle marksmanship, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions.

Buster is the son of Barr Gray of Homer and a 2001 graduate of the Alaska Military Youth Academy in Anchorage.

Soldotna woman completes Army training

Army Private Sierra M. Mello graduated from the network switching systems operator-maintainer advanced individual training course at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.

She was trained to install, initialize, operate and perform unit level and direct support maintenance on electronic switching assemblies, systems and ancillary communications equipment; use computers to perform system-network operations, interpret computer error codes to correct fault systems; perform unit level preventive maintenance checks and services on associated communications security devices; and operate, install, troubleshoot and repair power generators and assigned vehicles.

Mellow is the daughter of Deborah A. Griffin of Soldotna and Rodger F. Mellow of Arvin, Calif. She is a 2001 graduate of Soldotna High School.
