A Kenai teen died in an early-morning single-vehicle accident Friday.

Soldotna police and Alaska State Troopers responded to the accident on Chugach Drive and Brooks Avenue, off Kalifornsky Beach Road, Friday at 1:15 a.m. Ryan A. Flood, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene by Central Emergency Services medical personnel.

Soldotna Police Chief Shirley Warner said investigation revealed that Flood was traveling at an excess of 60 mph when he lost control of the 1985 Chevrolet pickup he was driving. The vehicle entered a ditch, then flipped, and Flood, who police say probably was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle.

Flood sustained massive head and neck injuries. Bradley Perkovich, 20, of Soldotna, a passenger in Flood's vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. His parents were notified.

Warner said alcohol was a factor in the crash, and a Soldotna police investigation is continuing.

The speed limit for both Chugach Drive and Brooks Avenue is 25 mph, Warner said, and the roads were wet.
