Mail-in registration will be ongoing and must be received by Friday. In-person registration is scheduled for Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Soldotna Middle School, 426 W. Redoubt Ave., in Soldotna. Classes will begin Thursday.
The registration form included in the brochure is not the correct form. You can pick up a corrected form at the Soldotna and Kenai public libraries or simply send the required registration information -- your name, home and work phone, class title, date, etc. -- and the class fee to Soldotna Community Schools, 426 W. Redoubt Ave., Soldotna, AK 99669 or call 262-6768, for more information. We are sorry for any confusion this error might have caused.
Below is a list of classes and activities that begin this week, to serve as a reminder to registered participants. If you are interested in a class or activity but are not preregistered, please call the Soldotna Community School office to check on space availability, location changes and cancellations.
Walk the Soldotna Middle School hallways -- in lighted, carpeted hallways out of the weather. Eight laps is one mile. Hallways is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for $10 a month (walking 3 times a week).
Orientation to Hospice
Learn the history and concepts of Hospice care, stages of death and dying, and advance directives -- including living wills, durable power of attorney and the Alaska Comfort One Program.
The program is open to all interested community members and is required for individuals who wish to continue with Hospice Direct Care Training. Prescreening is required for potential Hospice volunteers. Taught by Liz Schubert, Executive Director Hospice of the Central Peninsula.

Adult Coed Recreational Volleyball
Pick-up games, just for fun with facilitator Julie English. Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School Multi-purpose room, from 7 to 9 p.m., for adults, 11 weeks, $3 per night or $25 per series

Lights On Afterschool
A celebration of after-school and evening activities cosponsored by the After the Bell Boys and Girls Club program and Soldotna Community Schools at Soldotna Middle School from 6 to 8 p.m.
There will be refreshments, dignitary comments, classical guitar with Christopher Towne and the Soldotna Community School Teen Coordinators will be available in the Soldotna Middle School Commons from 6 to 7 p.m.
The Pop Warner Flag Football game warm-up will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in the SMS Multi-purpose room. The game will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
The Boys and Girls Club Basketball game will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
Pick-up games for nine weeks on two courts; one slowbreak, one fastbreak, at the Soldotna Middle School Gym from 7 to 9 p.m. Must be 18 years of age minimum. $4 per night or a punch card. There will be no Thursday evening basketball next week on Oct. 18 due to Soldotna Middle School concert.
Retirement goals, personal investment options and time-tested strategies with instructor Matt Streiff of Edwards Jones Investments in Kenai. Soldotna Middle School Room 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., one night, $5.
Who gets the kids? Who gets the dog? Who gets the "stuff"? What about second marriages? What if you're single? If you don't write your own will, the state will provide one for you -- and the results may surprise you.
In addition to simple wills, this class will also cover powers of attorney and living wills with instructor Janet Tempel, Attorney at Law. Soldotna Middle School Room 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., one night, teens and adults, $20 single, $25 couple.
Learn to speak and understand Spanish from a native who has taught privately and publicly in Mexico, at UAA and on the peninsula. Basic fundamentals such as grammar, vocabulary, listening, and reading and an emphasis on learning intuitively through unique activities, games and stories.
Vocabulary practice is offered from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., before the main class begins. Soldotna Middle School, Room 1, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. or 5 to 6 p.m., 4 weeks, 7 years of age through adult, 10 person minimum, $40 for ages 7 through 18, $60 for adults.
Beginning Square Dance
