Kwethluk man drowns

Posted: Tuesday, October 09, 2001

BETHEL (AP) -- A Kwethluk man drowned while traveling by boat from Bethel to Kwethluk early Friday morning.

Alaska State Troopers said Matthew Epchook, 21, was traveling with several other people when he fell into Church Slough.

Searchers found his body Saturday on the bank of the Kuskokwim river, about two miles northeast of Bethel.

Troopers said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the Epchook's drowning.
