KETCHIKAN (AP) -- Jury selection began Monday in the retrial of Jose M. ''Che'' Mateu, charged with first-degree murder in the January 2000 death of his father, Jose R. Mateu, in their home.
The first trial in Ketchikan Superior Court ended in May with a hung jury.
Mateu, 18, also is charged with evidence tampering. The trial is expected to last three weeks.
In the first trial, District Attorney Steve West said the two ate a spaghetti dinner the night of the shooting and that the younger Mateu spent the night at a friend's house.
West said the elder Mateu was shot once in the back of the head while sitting in a recliner soon after eating dinner.
