Black bear wanders into Juneau store looking for dinner

JUNEAU (AP) -- A black bear wandered into a Juneau convenience store Monday searching for supper.

The 2-year-old bear entered the liquor section of DeHart's Auke Bay store on Glacier Highway about 4:15 p.m., police said. The animal might have been attracted to the smell of chicken and potatoes cooking inside the store, said Sgt. Ben Coronell.

Responding police chased the animal out.

Shelli Galbreath, a store employee, said the bear ran out a side door and down to the beach. She said it didn't hurt anyone or damage any property.

And it didn't take the cooked chicken, either.
