ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage police say a woman found dead in her apartment was a homicide victim.

Police found Cynthia R. Barnes, 47, in her home in the Mountain View neighborhood after a friend asked them to check on her.

Neighbors who live in the multiplex said Barnes had not been seen in days and had not responded to knocks on her doors and windows.

Barnes' longtime friend Fran, who refused to give her last name, called police after not hearing from the woman for four days, she said.

''Her mom called me really concerned,'' Fran said. ''I went over there and pounded on the windows and doors.''

Police arrived sometime after 8 p.m. Monday and were ''down there all night,'' according to a woman who lives upstairs from Barnes. The woman refused to give her name to the Anchorage Daily News. The last time she saw Barnes was Oct. 1, she said, when Barnes brought a candy necklace over for her 3-year-old daughter.
