Healthy Communities to hold meeting

Healthy Communities-Healthy People Steering Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bridges at 145 Kasilof St. in Soldotna. These meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. For further details, call 262-4120 or 260-3800.

4-H rendezvous planned

Kenai Peninsula chapters of 4-H will hold a rendezvous at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. This event is for anyone interested in becoming a 4-H member. The rendezvous will be held at several locations around the Kenai Peninsula, including the Kenai Mall, North Star Elementary School, the Sterling Senior Citizens Center, Soldotna Elementary School, Tustumena Elementary School, the Ninilchik Fire Station and the Anchor Point Senior Citizens Center. Historical society to begin new season

The Kasilof Historical Society will begin its new season Thursday at the McLane Center. The program this month will feature Dorothy Gray speaking on the renovation of the Russian Orthodox Church. The program begins at 7 p.m. and everyone is welcome. For more information, call 262-2439.

Speaker planned for disability awareness

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. Sabine Becker Delmoitie is a noted speaker and artist of Alaska Spirit Dancer dolls. It will be held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday at the Peninsula Job Center at 11312 Kenai Spur Highway, Suite 2, in Kenai. Lunch will be provided for registered participants. Space is limited. Testimonial meeting canceled

The Bible testimonial meeting planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Soldotna Middle School has been canceled due to the illness of the meeting's sponsor. No make-up date has been scheduled.

Candidates forum planned Oct. 17

A public candidates' forum for state Senate District Q, House Representative District 33 and House District 34 will be held Oct. 17 at the Borough Building in Soldotna. Members of the public are invited to attend, meet the candidates and ask questions. District 34 candidates Mike Chenault and James Price will answer questions from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.; District 33 candidates Hal Smalley and Kelly Wolf will answer questions from 7:15 to 8 p.m.; and Senate Q candidates Pat Hawkins, Thomas Stroman, Tom Wagner and Jerry Ward will answer questions from 8 to 9 p.m. The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Goblins, ghosts, Wonder Women wanted

Did you ever dress up for Halloween? The Peninsula Clarion is seeking fun photographs of kids of all ages in costume for an upcoming edition.

Submit your photos and print a brief explanation, the names of those pictured and a phone number and name of a contact person to Halloween Photos, c/o Peninsula Clarion, P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, AK 99611 or drop them by the Kenai or Soldotna Clarion offices.

Only photos with an address written on the back will be returned. E-mailed photos will not be accepted.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 18.
