Chamber luncheon meeting today

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly luncheon today at noon at the Riverside House. Members of the Juvenile Detention Facility Team will speak. For more information, call 262-9814.

Orientation for after-school program offered

After the Bell, the after-school enrichment program for Soldotna students, is sponsoring an orientation tonight at 7 at Soldotna Middle School. It is free and will last about an hour. The orientation will allow parents to meet the staff, learn policies and procedures, get membership cards and handbooks, complete paperwork and get answers to questions. Registration for classes planned

Soldotna Community Schools registration for fall 2000 classes is scheduled for Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Soldotna Middle School library. Details about each class and activity can be found in the fall 2000 Soldotna Community School brochure that is available at Soldotna and Kenai public libraries, the city of Soldotna and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. Most classes require preregistration and prepayment. In-person registration is not required. Registrations, with class fees, also may be mailed to the same address. Class and activities not reaching the minimum number by Thursday will be canceled. Classes and activities begin Oct. 17. For more information, call 262-6768.

Free Medicare seminar offered

The Health Care Financing Administration is presenting a free Medicare seminar for people new to Medicare or who will soon be using Medicare for the first time. The seminar will be Wednesday at the Kenai Senior Center. Preregistration for the seminars is available. For more information, call (800) 478-9996.

Committee meeting planned Thursday

The Healthy Communities-Healthy People Steering Committee's regular monthly meeting will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Bridges in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-1831.

Senior center to hold German meal

The Sterling Senior Center is hosting a dinner of German beer sausage, bratwurst and spatzels on Friday at 6 p.m. Cost is $7 and proceeds go to the United Way of the Kenai Peninsula.

SPCA fund-raiser canceled

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of the Kenai Peninsula's Fall Festival fund-raiser planned for Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center has been postponed. The organization still has items for sale, including puppets of different kinds, stuffed animals and jewelry. The festival will be rescheduled at a later date. Anyone interested in helping the SPCA of the Kenai Peninsula or wanting more information should contact Michele at 262-8800 or 262-8550.
