Two Homer Pop Warner football teams won their semifinal playoff games last weekend, earning tickets to the state championship games in Anchorage. The Homer Pop Warner program just started in 1999.
The Junior Pee Wee Jaguars traveled to play the Anchorage Panthers at Anchorage Football Stadium Saturday. The weather quickly changed from clear and sunny, to hail, to pouring rain, but the Jaguars clawed back from an early deficit and defeated Anchorage 12-7
The Homer Falcons were teh top-seeded team going into the Junior Midget Playoffs, but, due to a shortage of certified referees, they were forced to travel to Soldotna to play the second-seeded Kenai Buccaneers at Skyview High School. Despite the loss of home-field advantage, the Falcons topped the Bucs, 19-7. The Falcons scored a touchdown in the first quarter, then tacked on two more scores in the third quarter to make the score 19-0.
