Internet class slated

Kenai Community Library is offering a beginning Internet class from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the library. The topic will be e-mail basics. For more information, call 283-4378.

KPBSD budget meetings slated

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will hold budget hearings on the following dates and times: today at 7 p.m. at the Homer High School library; Oct. 17 in Soldotna (call for time); Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Seward High School library; and Nov. 7 from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in Homer in conjunction with the scheduled school board meetings. Blood drive planned

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive for the Blood Bank of Alaska from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Red Cross office at 503 Frontage Road in Kenai. For more information or to register, call Annette at 283-4556.

Hospital service board to meet

The South Peninsula Hospital Service Area board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 4300 Bartlett Ave. in Homer. This meting will be in conjunction with the South Peninsula Hospital Inc. board of directors meeting. The topics will be the SPHI's response to the Kenai Borough mayor regarding the internal audit and a status report on the hospital expansion.

Brown bears are topic

The Kenai River Center will host bear expert and author Will Troyer for its first in a series of monthly talks at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the center at Mile 16 of Funny River Road in Soldotna. Troyer will share his 30 years of experience in studying brown bears. There is no fee. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 260-4882.

CPR, first aid, AED classes set

The American Red Cross will hold first aid, CPR and AED classes from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at its office at at 503 Frontage Road in Kenai. For more information or to register, call 283-4556.

Actors, singers sought

The Triumvirate Theatre will hold auditions for its production of "A Christmas Carol" at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Peninsula Center Mall.

Hospice training announced

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will offer volunteer training in October. Training will be from held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 20, 24 and 25 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. Space is limited. It is open to the public. To preregister, call 262-0453.

Library pumpkin contest slated

The Soldotna Public Library is sponsoring a pumpkin carving and painting contest. Entries must represent a fictional book character. One prize will be awarded in four categories: preschool, elementary, teens and family. A grand prize will be awarded for Best in Contest. Painted pumpkins can be dropped off until Oct. 28. Carved pumpkins can be dropped off from Oct. 24 to 28.
