Homer and Anchor Point resident Ivan A. "Bud" Benson died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. He was 70.
At his request, there will be no services.
Mr. Benson was born May 4, 1930, in Onawa, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed at Fort Richardson. He moved away after serving at Fort Richardson, but returned to Alaska in March 1957.
Mr. Benson homesteaded 160 acres near Anchor Point with his wife and family. He worked construction until 1970 when he opened his business, Benson Gravel Sales. He retired in 1981, after he sold the business.
Mr. Benson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pauline Benson, of Homer; daughters Deena Benson of Homer, Lela Benson of Anchorage, Christy Drake and her husband Raymond of Anchor Point, Audrey Morris and her husband Roy of Homer, and Karen Dusenbery and her husband Tom of Anchor Point; grandsons Lincoln and Bradley Drake, Ramsey and Garrett Dusenbery and Byron Morris; sisters Ella Boyer of Colorado, Irene Fischer of Wisconsin, and Anna Marie Hill of Nebraska; and brother Avis Benson of Colorado.
Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
