HAINES (AP) -- David Black was elected mayor of Haines, besting the second place finisher by only two votes.

Results from the Oct. 2 city election show Black finished with 353 votes and Carl Lehman had 351 votes. Dave Button received 40 votes.

Lehman, a former Haines Borough mayor and retired state biologist, said he has no plans to contest the results. ''The election stands as is,'' he said.

Similar approaches to economic issues in the city may have accounted for the close vote, said Black, a retired business owner.

Among the top issues facing the city are hiring a new city manager and studying a city-borough consolidation, Black said. Helicopter tourism will also be a subject of concern, he said.

City and borough voters approved an advisory question supporting managed helicopter tourism by 615-512. An initiative to regulate helicopter flightseeing outside the city passed 209-133.

Voter turnout was 48 percent in the city election, results show.
