Halloween photos wanted
Did you ever dress up for Halloween? The Peninsula Clarion is seeking fun photographs of kids in costume for an upcoming edition -- even if it's you when you were a kid!
Submit your photos and print a brief explanation, the names of those pictured and a phone number and name of a contact person to Halloween Photos, c/o Peninsula Clarion, P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, AK 99611 or drop them by the Kenai or Soldotna Clarion offices.
Only photos with an address written on the back will be returned. E-mailed photos will not be accepted.

Kenai clay exhibition planned
The Kenai Potters Guild is accepting entries to its 14th Kenai Clay exhibition Oct. 20 at the Kenai Fine Arts Center, 816 Cook Ave. in Kenai, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eligibility extends to potters over age 18 living in central Alaska. The juror is Wally Bivins from the Seattle area.

Writing workshop offered
The fall visiting writers series sponsored by the Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College features poet and author Derick Burleson Oct. 25-28 in Homer. Burleson will conduct a nonfiction writing workshop, "Writing Our True Selves," focusing on the personal essay and memoir. He also will hold a reading of his work, open to the public, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Bunnell Street Gallery.
Poems sought
The Friendly Poets Society is offering a $1,000 grand prize in its latest poetry competition. There are 28 prizes in all worth more than $3,000. The contest is seeking poems on any subject, using any style, with a life-affirming inspirational theme.
"Considering the recent tragic events we think inspirational poems can assist in these trying times," said contest director Lavender Augulis. "We hope this contest will provide a creative outlet for people to express their feelings. Poets truly are a light in the darkness, we hope this contest helps show that."

Art proposals sought
The Fireweed Gallery is seeking proposals for readings, exhibitions of art in all media and other events for 2002. The deadline is Nov. 1. Include a letter of application, artist's statement, resume, pictures or slides and three choices of months for exhibition or date of event.
