I just wanted to put my two cents in about charter schools. I don't know much about Kaleidoscope or the other charter schools in the area. I do, however, have a student at Soldotna Montessori charter school. We do receive the benefits of school lunches, and if I wanted my child to take the bus, that service is also provided. More space would be excellent. I look forward to eventually having that opportunity.
I do know that I would not want anything that hurts my community. Montessori teaches using our resources, taking care of those resources and thinking outside of the box. Community relations are very important. Personally, I want it to be a positive experience for everyone.
All I know for sure is that if there was not a Montessori charter available, I would have continued home-schooling. I see charter schools as a win-win situation. My child gets the benefits of smaller classrooms and a top-notch education. The school district gets the funds for having another child in their classroom that would otherwise be home-schooled.
I do hope that the Montessori middle school is open for next year. If not, my husband and I will exercise our rights to home-school or enroll our child in a private school. Go charter schools!
