Mountaineer to share story for fundraiser

Cancer Survivors on Mount Aspiring will host a fundraising slide show at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Kenai Middle School gym. The featured speaker will be Scott Darsney, mountaineering guide, photographer and adventurer.

Darsney has climbed Everest, Denali (as a guide for Cancer Survivors on McKinley 1997), and many other peaks around the world.

Donations are accepted. Donated funds will help pay for children with cancer to attend camp.

KAFC plans open house

The Kenai Area Fisherman's Coalition (KAFC) will host a meet and greet event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the organization to the general public and to listen to ideas and concerns about area fisheries.

The goal of the KAFC is to serve as an advocate for private fisheries users who are not otherwise represented and to promote the conservation of fisheries resources for future generations.
