The following Halloween/fall events are planned:
* There will be a Halloween Party for children at the Kenai Eagles Aerie #3525 on Saturday October 31st from 12 noon until 3pm. There will be games, prizes & snacks. Call

* Grace Lutheran Church and School school will host an "Oktober Fest" on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Activities include carnival games, a costume parade, a soup and dessert cook-off, a brats and root beer garden, drawings and much more. Each family is asked to donate bags of wrapped candy for prizes. Volunteers are needed to help run games. For more information or to enroll, call Joanne Love at 283-9551.
The Lions Club will have a table at the Central Peninsula Health Fair Saturday at the Soldotna High School, to demonstrate different aids to assist the visually impaired. A CCT and a machine called the Scan and Read will be demonstrated, as well as have other educational and visual aides available.
The group will take names for those who would like a low vision assessment. This will be done locally by the Alaska Center For the Blind and Visually Impaired from Anchorage and is free as part of a grant sponsored by the Lions Club International and The District 49A Lions Clubs.

October is breast cancer awareness month. The Peninsula Clarion is encouraging everyone to "Think Pink" for October. In the spirit of this, we are looking for your favorite "pink" recipes. Whether it is a great Red Velvet cake, a rub for that light pink rare prime rib, an innovative way to prepare pink salmon, or homemade strawberry ice cream - send us your recipes.
Recipes include in its Wednesday Food section. Send recipes to firstname.lastname@example.org, fax them to 283-3299 or drop them by the office at 150 Trading Bay Drive in Kenai. The Boy Scouts of America will hold a registration meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Kenai Elks Lodge at 205 Barnacle Way (across from the Kenai Post Office) Boys between the ages of 11 and 18 years old may participate.

The Soldotna Equestrian Association will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna. Everyone is invited to attend current member or not.
Voting for five open board seats (must be current 2009 SEA member to vote.) is planned. Nominations are due by Nov. 1 and those submitting names are required to have nominees permission prior to nomination submission.

The Kenai Central High School pool will offer a Red Cross lifeguard class from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 18, 24 and 25. Class may also be extended to Oct. 31.
The cost is $150. Class prerequisites include being at least 15 years old, (16 to be hired by school district), be able to continuously swim 500 yards, perform 100 yards each -- crawl stroke, breast stroke and side stroke, submerge to minimum depth of seven feet, retrieve a 10-pound block, and return to surface and tread water for two minutes.
