ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A jet fuel spill at Elmendorf Air Force Base was quickly cleaned up and there was no harm to the environment, officials said.
More than 90 gallons of fuel spilled Wednesday when a weapons loader carrying an unarmed training weapon hit a portable generator. The mishap punctured the generator's fuel tank, said Sgt. Theo McNamara, a spokesman for the Air Force's 3rd Wing, .
The spill didn't leave the tarmac, so cleanup was quick, according to Leslie Pearson with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.
Officials said no fuel came in direct contact with soil or water.
Base firefighters and a spill response team contained and recovered the fuel.
McNamara said Elmendorf's safety office is investigating the spill.
