Peninsula student earns scholarship

Abigail R. Zerbe of Soldotna was awarded a scholarship from the Alaska Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The scholarship was awarded to deserving Alaska residents currently enrolled in at least their junior year, or equivalent, of an accredited School of Architecture.

Zerbe is in her final year of her master's of architecture program at the University of Idaho in Moscow. She received $2,000.

Horn named executive director of mental health

Steve Horn recently was named as the first executive director for the Alaska Community of Mental Health Service Association. His hiring is designed to move the organization forward toward its goal of being an advocate for the community mental health providers.

Horn's past leadership experience includes executive director of the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska, executive director of the Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club and the chief financial officer of First Choice Home Health Care Inc. He also was the branch manager of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.

WRCC names new director

Cheri Smith recently was appointed as the new executive director of the Women's Resource and Crisis Center in Kenai.

Smith has extensive knowledge,and experience working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and many years of managerial experience in nonprofit organizations, as well as human resource management.
