Community contra dance planned
The Kenai River Folk Dancers will host a smoke- and alcohol-free community contra dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School. Participants should bring clean, non marking shoes to dance in. Potluck refreshment are encouraged. Admission is $5. Children under 16 can get in for free if accompanied by an adult. Senior cafe plans closure
The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center's Breakfast Cafe will be closed Sunday. It will resume operation with a breakfast buffet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23.
Masters swim program planned
The Skyview pool will begin a masters swimming program from 5:45 to 7 p.m. Tuesday's beginning next week. The season will run through December. Members will participate in a variety of ways from swimming laps to international competitions. The cost is $35 for the season. For more information, call Cathy at 262-3905.
Domestic violence workshop set
The LeeShore Center will hold a community awareness workshop on domestic violence and sexual assault from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24 through 28 at the center. The topics will be domestic violence, sexual assault, the effects of domestic violence on children, the centers Batterer's Intervention Program and volunteering with shelter clients.
Continuing education credit may be attained after completion of the workshop and 30 hours of volunteer work with the center. It is open to the public. Participants may attend a portion or the entire workshop. For more information, call 283-9479.
Family history presentation set
The Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will present a class on writing your family history at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Kenai Community Library. Participants are encouraged to pick someone from their family, write a brief history and share it with the group. For more information, call 283-4481.
