Kenai-Soldotna advisory committee to meet

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet Oct. 16 to discuss 2006 fishing proposals and other issues. For more information call Gary Dawkins 262-3993.

Guide academy announces class dates

The Kenai River Guide Academy will be offered five times before the 2007 fishing season. This is a five-day course covering regulatory issues, safety, guide ethics and behavior, fisheries and habitat topics. Course dates are: Dec. 4, Jan. 29, Feb. 19, March 19 and April 30. In 2007, the course becomes mandatory for anyone who has not held a Kenai River Commercial Guide Permit. Kenai River professional sportfishing guides who held a valid permit prior to Dec. 31, 2005 are required to successfully complete the course within a specified amount of time based on the number of years they served as a Kenai River guide. The cost of the course is $206, which includes lunches from Monday-Thursday. To sign up for the course, call 262-0330. For more information on the course, visit www.KRGA.org.

Open house on strategic plan slated

The Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation will hold an open house at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenai River Center, to invite the public to review and comment on its draft 10-year strategic plan, a plan for future management of state park areas and outdoor recreation programs. The division also is accepting written comments. Comments should include a reference to the specific page and strategy numbers, and objectives. Comments must be received by Nov. 3, and can be mailed to State Park Strategic Planning 550 W. Seventh Ave., Suite 1050 Anchorage, AK 99501-3579, faxed to (907) 269-8915 or e-mailed to monica_alvarez@dnr.state.ak.us.
