Play fair out there

Posted: Wednesday, October 13, 2010

You know, I like Homer. I even have relatives who live in Homer. What I don't like was the attitude and actions of some of the players at Saturday's football game between Homer and Kenai.

I witnessed several cheap shots made by many of the Homer players to many of the Kenai players. One player in particular should have his parents set him down and give him a lecture about how to be a good player and a good sport. I have told my son, if I were to ever see or hear of him intentionally hurting someone while he was playing a game of any sort, that would be the end of his playing days. Right in front of where I was sitting, I saw a player purposely slap my son on the side of the head! Daniel came home last night more bruised than any four previous games put together. He also told me of other cheap shots not only by this young man but a few others inflicted upon him and his teammates.

I hope the coaches don't encourage that type of behavior and do all they can to stop it. I can't see the Kenai coaches letting any of the Kenai players exhibit the unsportsmanlike conduct I witnessed yesterday from Homer and remain in the game.

(Homer's) Number 48? I hear the Kenai team says you were great! Thanks for your good example.

Kath McCubbins-Carlson, Kenai
