Public radio membership drive next week

The KDLL Fall Membership Drive is Oct. 21, 22, 23. Call 283-8433 to make a pledge. If the phones are busy, pledge on the secure website at www.kdllradio.org, or come by the station, pledge your support in person and pick up your premiums while enjoying the famous "Rita Cookies."

Homemakers bazaar coming up

Redoubt Homemakers FCE Fall Bazaar takes place Saturday, Oct. 16, at Nikiski Fire Station #1, Spur Hwy Mile 17.9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A variety of homemade quilts, blankets, rugs, towels, aprons and more offered. Homemade baked goods will be available, including the fruit nut bread. Contact: Patty Hert, 776-3789.

City league roundball time

The Kenai Recreation Center is taking team registrations for the 2010/2011 Men's City League Basketball program. Deadline to register is Nov. 1. Space is limited, so teams are entered on a first come first served basis. Contact the Rec Center at 283-3855 for more information.

LeeShore classes cancelled

The LeeShore Center's Changing Patterns, parenting for women and domestic violence support group classes are cancelled from Oct. 26 through Oct. 29. All classes will resume the following week. For more information, call 283-9479.

Library hosts pumpkin contest

Friends of the Joyce K. Carver Memorial Library in Soldotna are sponsoring the library's Annual Pumpkin Carving/Painting Contest, open to elementary aged children, teens and families. Entries must represent a fictional book character. One prize will be awarded in each category, plus one grand prize awarded for "Best in Contest." The library will accept painted pumpkins through Oct. 27, and carved pumpkins Oct. 18-27. Awards will be presented Oct. 29, at 4 p.m. Contact Terri Burdick at 262-4227.

Youth invited to learn to hunt

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) and 4-H Shooting Sports Program in partnership with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Hunter Education Program, is once again inviting youngsters 16 years of age and younger (minimum age of 10) to participate in an organized small game hunting experience. Each weekend from Nov. 1 through the end of December, pairs of adult Hunter Education and 4-H certified mentors will escort pairs of youths for one day of supervised small game hunting. Parents and guardians are welcome to participate. SCI will supply the firearms and instruction, ammunition, transportation and lunch. Fish and Game's Hunter Education Program will supply orange vests, hearing and eye protection. If not already certified, participating youth will be encouraged to sign up for an upcoming Hunter Education certification class and the 4-H Shooting Sports Program. School district advisory committee to meet

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Federal Programs Advisory Committee will meet Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the Kenai Convention & Visitors Center. The meeting is open to the public. RSVP, or for more information contact Mary Blossom at 714-8892.

Hospice training slated

Hospice of the Central Peninsula Volunteer training will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on Oct. 19, 21, 23, 26, 28, and 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. except Saturday will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
