Stars netters sweep Bulldogs

The Soldotna High School volleyball team defeated Nikiski in three games in a nonconference match Tuesday at Nikiski.

The Stars won 25-15, 25-20, 25-15.

Becca Satathite picked up 11 digs for the Stars to go with seven aces and eight kills. Alicia Hamilton had 12 digs, Kylee Woodford had 11 digs and Kaillee Skjold picked up seven blocks. Heidi Westerman notched 13 assist, Julie Litchfield had nine assists, and Jessie Duke had six kills.

The Stars will travel to Homer for a Northern Lights Conference match Friday. Nikiski travels to Anchorage Christian Schools for a Friday Southcentral Conference match.

Kardinals fall to Mariners

The Kenai Central High School volleyball lost to Homer in three games in a Northern Lights Conference match Tuesday at Kenai.

The Mariners won 25-20, 25-20, 27-25.

Despite the loss, Kenai coach John Kennedy said he saw good things from his squad.

"Even though they didn't win, the kids played fantastic tonight," Kennedy said. "It was the most consistent they've played all year. ... Good things are happening."

Allie McGahan picked up seven kills and two aces for the Kardinals. Alisha Peterson netted five kills and a pair of blocks. Shelby Toombs had three kills and 10 assists. Shaina Aho had 17 digs, and Sam Little served two aces.

Kenai will visit Skyview for an NLC match Thursday. Homer will host Soldotna.
