JUNEAU (AP) -- An Alaska Department of Labor veteran has been tapped to run the state unemployment insurance program.
Bill Kramer worked for the Employment Security Division for 15 years, most recently as technology support services manager.
Kramer said the program is running well and his first goal is to ensure it continues. In the long term, he said, the program will look at Internet applications to improve service to employers and unemployed workers.
In fiscal year 2002, which ended June 30, the program paid $132 million in benefits to 54,500 people for an average of 14 weeks.
Unemployment insurance call centers are in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau.
