FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A teenager walking on a South Fairbanks expressway was struck and killed early Saturday.
Rocky Polzin, 19, was struck at about 3 a.m. as he walked along the Mitchell Expressway. Fairbanks police said he was rushed unconscious to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead there.
The driver, Joseph Mulholand, was heading west. He has not cited in the incident, police said.
Family and friends said Polzin was known for taking long walks, sometimes as far away as North Pole about 14 miles south of Fairbanks.
Polzin's uncle, Richard Polzin, said his nephew wore a long, black coat and was known to don headphones during long walks to friends' homes.
