Longtime Alaska resident Larrie O. Woods died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at his home in Soldotna. He was 67.
The family is planning a memorial service for family and friends at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Woods Hangar at the Palmer Airport in Palmer.
Mr. Woods was born April 8, 1936, in Minnesota. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to Palmer. He attended Purdue University, graduating with a degree in agriculture. He and his wife moved to Soldotna in 1967 to manage the International Hotel.
Mr. Woods also worked for Unocal in Nikiski as a fire and safety supervisor and later as head of security until his retirement. He also was a firefighter in Anchorage and assistant fire chief in the Soldotna Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, family and friends.
Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Marvel Woods, and a brother, Warren "Buddy" Woods.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jenny; sons, Brian and his wife, Takami, of California, and Kerry of Anchorage; brothers, Noel and his wife, Jeanne, of Palmer, and Roger and his wife, Velma of Anchorage; sister, Nancy Woods Mallory and her husband, Bruce, of Hawaii; sister-in-law, Christine Wood Soulak and her husband, Dave, of Palmer; brother-in-law, George Spence of Soldotna; sister-in-law, Catherine Collins of Florida; dear friend, Sherry Spence of Soldotna; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to area charities.
