Gene Fredrick VenHuizen
Soldotna resident Gene Fredrick VenHuizen died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at his home. He was 68.
Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services, held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mr. VenHuizen was born July 26, 1936, in Fulton, Ill. He moved to Alaska in 1969 and Anchorage in 1972. He worked for the Anchorage School District Maintenance Department from 1972 until his retirement in 2001. Mr. VenHuizen continued to live in Anchorage until 2003, when he and his wife moved to Soldotna. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
"Gene was a very kind and loving husband, father and friend," his family said.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Burke, and father, Clarence VenHuizen.
Mr. VenHuizen is survived by his wife, Doris of Soldotna; daughters, Kera VenHuizen of Anchorage and Debbie Inman of Grangeville, Idaho; son, Brian VenHuizen of Melba, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Anita VenHuizen of Anchorage; nephew and his wife, Todd and Anna VenHuizen of Anchorage; great-nephew, Brandon VenHuizen of Anchorage; uncle, Harold Groh of Fulton; cousins, Larry Groh of Clinton, Iowa, and Leon Groh of Fulton; and friends, Ray and Jo Starzec, Dave and Sherri LaMore and Bob Larrett, all of Anchorage, and Jerry and Maggie Raught of Carnation, Wash.
Arrangements were made by Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory.
