ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Fairbanks man was sentenced to 20 days in jail for failing to pay more than $122,000 in child support.

Adam Bijan, 52, was sentenced Friday to three years probation as well. A jury convicted him last month on two counts of criminal non-support, a misdemeanor.

Acting District Court Judge Winston Burbank also imposed a $1,000 fine for each count. The fines were suspended, however, on condition that Bijan make monthly child support payments for two sons and two daughters.

The first payment is due Nov. 15.

The sentencing is the second time in three weeks that a judge has ordered jail time in a non-support case.

Carl T. Wallers of Juneau was sentenced last month to 10 days in jail and five years probation after pleading no contest to allegations he owed more than $44,000 in back child support for his 11-year-old daughter.
