As part of their science unit, Mrs. Matson's fifth-grade class buried organic and inorganic garbage in holes that the class dug behind the school. The class will study the effect that humans have on the ecosystems. The students made hypotheses about the length of time it would take for the various types of garbage to decompose. The class will dig up half of the garbage in two weeks and then wait until after the snow melt in the spring to compare the relative rates of biodegradability.

Preschool classes are offered from 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Friday, except in-service days. It is open to children ages 2 1/2 to 5 and their parents. It meets in room 1. There is no fee.
