Why is Alaska going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a special session when the Petroleum Profits Tax (PPT) is working as designed and there's a mandatory legislative review in five years?
Five years seems a reasonable time, considering that PPT delivered an extra $1 billion in taxes this year and is helping Pioneer Alaska Resources become the first independent producer on the North Slope.
Don't we have better uses for our money than to pay legislators and staffers for this needless special session? We should spend our money on programs that benefit Alaska instead of increasing the size of government.
