Dawson survives: Bears can't rally in 3rd

The Dawson Creek Rage defeated the Kenai River Brown Bears 5-4 on Thursday night in North American Hockey League action at the Soldotna Sports Center.

The same two teams play tonight and Saturday at the sports center at 7:30 p.m. The Brown Bears fall to 6-7-1 in the West Division, but remain in third place, one point ahead of Wenatchee.

Dawson Creek improves to 4-9-1 but remains in last place in the division, two points behind Fresno.

Kenai River went into the final period trailing 5-4 and outshot the Rage 17-2 in the final 20 minutes, but could not find the equalizer. The Brown Bears outshot the Rage 35-21 in front of 383 fans.

Kenai River got on the board first in the first period when Jesse Ramsey scored a power-play goal on assists from Brett Lubanski and Ryan Walker. Nolan Rossiter answered with the first of his two goals for the Rage.

Sean Muller scored an unassisted goal with 3:28 left in the first to give the Brown Bears the lead.

To start the second, Rossiter scored again, then Dakota Mason got started on his hat trick for the Rage.

Erick Ware, on assists from Andrew Huckleby and Zack Capozza, tied the game for the Brown Bears, but Mason came back with a goal for Dawson Creek.

Ware, on an assist from Jesse Ramsey, tied the game again, but Mason answered, this time on a power-play goal, to give the Rage the lead for good with 1:30 left in the second period.
