Longtime Soldotna resident Emogene Soper died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident. She was 62.

A graveside service was held Saturday at the Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof, where she was buried. Pastor Eric Skjold officiated.

She was born Nov. 25, 1937, in Crowell, Neb., to Emery and Myrtle Ayres. She married Dale Soper in 1969, and they moved to Soldotna in 1971.

"'Eme,' as she was affectionately known, was an active member of Calvary Life Fellowship of North America, Kasilof Chapter, and gave many years of devoted service to her Lord through that organization. She made friends wherever she went and is spoken of highly by those who knew her. Eme often spoke of her burden and care for children and young people, that they might come to know the Lord. She enjoyed flowers and gardening," her family said.

According to her husband, "Eme was one of the most precious wives that I could ever imagine anyone to be. She was an excellent cook and housekeeper. But most of all, what was outstanding about her was her deep love for me as her husband, in fact her deep love for all people. Her loving and deep devotion to God constantly displayed a woman of spiritual stature and refinement. Now that she has left us, Earth will be poorer and heaven will be richer. I am sure her reward in heaven will be great. I feel honored to have had her as my wife for 31 years. Eme will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her."

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Ayres.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Soper; sisters Patricia Green of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dorothy Patterson of Tacoma, Wash., and Evelyn Hopkins of Kirkland, Wash.; brothers Frank Ayres of Lincoln, Neb., and Everett Ayres of Kent, Wash.; and step-children Roger, Ron and Rita, all of Michigan.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Calvary Life Fellowship, P.O. Box 812, Kasilof, AK 99610.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
