Team Alaska looking for hoops players
Arctic Winter Games Team Alaska has announced selection procedures for basketball. Athletes selected will be part of Alaska's 377-person delegation to the 2006 Arctic Winter Games, scheduled for March 5 through 11, 2006, in the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
The 2006 Alaska basketball teams for the Arctic Winter Games will be selected by the coach or sport coordinators through an application process. Arne Erickson of Hoonah and Deb Lowney of Homer will be the coaches for the 2006 Games, and will also serve as sport coordinators for their sport.
Any and all basketball players in Alaska born in 1988 or later are invited to apply and be considered for a position on the team. Athlete applications, detailed selection criteria and procedures are available online at http://www.2006.teamalaska.org.
In addition to completing the application, applicants must include in the application packet copies of their birth certificates, two contactable references, a recommendation from a coach who has coached the applicant and a tape or DVD if the coach is unable to see the player play in person. Boys applications must be mailed to Arne Erickson, P.O. Box 481, Hoonah, AK 99829. Girls applications must be mailed to Deb Lowney, P.O. Box 1445, Homer, AK 99603.

All application packets must be postmarked by Dec. 31. The team will be named on Jan. 15, 2006. Those selected must commit to participate no later than Jan. 22.
