Bed races were no snooze

Posted: Tuesday, October 17, 2006

Many, many thanks to all those teams and supporters who took part in the recently contested 7th Annual Soldotna Lions Vera Howarth Memorial Bed Race. And our condolences to those who missed “The Last Great Laugh of the Summer.”

It was a great race and was won this year by an entry sponsored by The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, pushed by Ryan Phillips and Jessica Otis who’s 2 year old daughter Annya was the winning “driver.” Wonderful fun for the purpose of raising money for the Soldotna Lions Scholarship Fund. This year’s race was the biggest ever with participants from Kenai Peninsula College, winners the last three years, The Kenai Lions Club, Alaska Christian College, The Soldotna Lions Club (crashed) and Lion President Tim Musgrove’s independent entry.

Also, a big thank you to Wells-Fargo Bank for prizes, Merrill Sikorski for photo and press support and all the Lions members who turned out for a great fun time and to witness big time bed racing in Soldotna, Alaska. Thank you all!
