BIG LAKE (AP) -- Alaska State Troopers are investigating the attempted theft of an automatic teller machine from the lobby of the EastLake Mall in Big Lake.
Someone apparently tried to steal the machine owned by Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union about 3:15 a.m. Monday, troopers said.
The thieves got into the mall by breaking a window. They tried to steal the machine by attaching a tow strap and chain to it and pulling it through the building wall using a vehicle.
The building and the ATM were severely damaged, but the money in the machine was untouched, troopers said.
