King salmon caught in saltwater are not the only local salmon stocks that have generated debate among area fishers and fish managers. Recent rules regarding the early-run of Kenai River king salmon have also come under fire from local fishers.
In order for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to better understand residents' concerns, a public meeting has been scheduled on the matter for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenai River Center.
A similar meeting will also be held in Anchorage Sunday at Alaska Pacific University at 7 p.m.
The meeting will be be run by Responsive Management, an independent research group hired by the department to study the issue and make future management recommendations for the Kenai and Kasilof river early-run king salmon fisheries.
