Church to offer quilting

The Christ Lutheran Church will have "Sew Saturday" from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, located one-fourth mile from the Sterling Highway on Kenai Spur Road. Everyone is welcome.

Middle Ages focus of Saturday demonstration

The Society for Creative Anachronism will recreate the Middle Ages during an event scheduled from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Bridges in Soldotna.

There will be demonstrations of the various craft and art forms, as well as a fighting and armor exhibition. The society has set up kingdoms based on the feudal system and the local prince and princess will attend with key court members.

Kachemak Heritage Land Trust to hold event

To secure the final funding needed to purchase the Poopdeck Platt Park property, the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust is holding an event at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Homestead restaurant in Homer. There will be door prizes, 15 items up for bid in a silent auction and a live auction of artwork and adventure items.

Tickets are $50 each and include an appetizer, entree, glass of house wine and dessert. Participants will have a chance to win a painting by Marian Beck. Tickets may be purchased from any land trust board member or at the land trust office, located at 106 Bunnell Ave.in Homer, or by calling 235-5263.

District 33 candidates to speak at chamber

House District 33 candidates will be featured in a candidate forum at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce's weekly meeting Tuesday. Candidates are Republican Kelly Wolf and Democrat Hall Smalley. The luncheon begins at noon at the Riverside House. For more information, call the chamber at 262-9814.

First Aid class to be offered

The American Red Cross will offer "First Aid Basics; Adult, Child, Infant CPR" from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The class also will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9. For more information and to sign up for the class, contact Annette at 262-4541 or by e-mail classes@gci.net.

Women's crisis center to hold meeting

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its regular monthly business meeting and annual membership meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 30. For more information, call Laurie at 283-9479.

Soldotna Senior Center plans bazaar

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center's annual Fall Bazaar and sixth annual Peninsula Area Art Show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2. Gifts for the upcoming holidays will be on sale. A variety of baked goods and a special lunch menu also will be available.

Hospice to offer volunteer training

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will hold training sessions for new volunteers and interested community members starting Nov. 7 and continuing Thursday evenings and Saturdays through Nov. 16. There will be sessions for those interested in volunteering with hospice families and clients and becoming community bereavement volunteers. Hospice family volunteers work with people with life limiting illnesses and provide support for their family care-givers. Community bereavement volunteers work to support survivors who have lost loved ones through death or provide leadership for a variety of grief support groups.

Training will be at Soldotna Middle School. Caring, compassionate adults are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Liz to register at 262-0453.
