Brats, beer, community support made Oktoberfest grand

Posted: Wednesday, October 18, 2006

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the 7th Annual Oktoberfest at the Kenai Elks on September 16th. This fundraiser for KDLL Public Radio is always a good time and for a good cause.

A large crowd was on hand helping to consume 50 pounds bratwurst, rolls, stuffed breads, sauerkraut and gallons of lentil soup. Many gallons of beer from the Kenai River Brewing Company also fell victim to the crowd. For those not wishing to consume alcohol, alternate drinks were also available. The Alaska Blaskapelle treated everyone to excellent polka music. Young and old danced to this marvelous band from Anchorage, who played until after 11 o’clock. Great job Neil, thanks again.

Doug and Wendell from the Kenai River Brewing Company were a great help with the beer. Their hard work in brewing such great beer, delivering and setting up the kegs is greatly appreciated.

Very special thanks go out to all who volunteered their time by selling tickets, decorating, cooking, serving and cleaning up afterwards. Mary Jackson, Allen Auxier, Mary Macrander, Wendy Focose, Lonnie Kay Brooks, Meg Mueller, Cindy Estes, Rita Kincade, Marti Pepper, John Osborne, Bryan Goforth, Christine Wheeler. Thank you all, your help made this event possible.

And to our bartenders, Victoria and Kari, you two were great! Thanks again.

Adrian and Penny at Regal Foods in Soldotna were a great help by donating the rolls everyone enjoyed with the brats. Every year these fine members of our community quietly help when called upon. Thanks Adrian and Penny.

I hope to see you all at next years Oktoberfest. We’ll save you a brat and a beer.
