October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October has been designated Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold a community awareness workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Monday through Friday at the Kenai River Center.
Topics to be covered include domestic violence, sexual assault, the effects of domestic violence on children, the WRCC Batter's Intervention Program and volunteering with shelter clients. The public is invited and may attend a portion or all of the workshops.
A continuing education credit may be attained after completion of the workshop and 30 hours of volunteer work with WRCC. For more information, call 283-9479
Job seminar planned
The Peninsula Job Center will hold a seminar covering the minimum wage increase, work permits, the Little Davis Bacon 1 percent fee requirement and state laws. The seminar will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the job center in Kenai. The seminar is free. For more information or to make a reservation, call 283-2901 or 283-2906.
Training conference slated
The Sterling Baptist Church will host an impact training conference done by the editing staff of Regular Baptist Press from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday. The conference is for anyone who is involved or thinking about getting involved in church ministry. For more information, call the church at 262-4711 or e-mail email@example.com. Potters guild seeking entries for show
The Kenai Potters Guild is seeking entries for the Clay Art Show for Southcentral Alaskan Potters. The guild will host the show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Fine Arts Center.
Clay work must be original and completed within the past two years. The fee is $10 for up to three pieces. A 20 percent commission will be charged to sales to cover show expenses. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance charges.
