Greetings from crisp Kasilof.
Like many, I sure am enjoying our unseasonably warmer temperatures and the absence of precipitation. Sky-watching night owls and early risers alike have been treated to spectacular displays of the aurora on our clearer days last week.
Due to in-service, there will be no school Friday.
It's that time again the Tustumena Elementary School parent-teacher organization's $2,500 cash raffle fund-raiser is going on, and this year tickets are only $20. In addition to the grand prize, there are 21 other cash prizes to be awarded. If you're feeling lucky and you don't have a ticket yet, give me a call.
Thanks to those community folks who made it out to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Comprehensive Plan update meeting Oct. 12. A copy of the plan book is available for reference at the Kasilof Public Library.
The library is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. The library has Kasilof's only public Internet access terminal, more than 13,000 books, VHS and audio tapes to lend, as well as new and used books for sale. Stop by and see what's in your library this week. For more library information, call me.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming Monday through Oct. 29, during parent-teacher conferences.
Kasilof is invited to Trunk or Treat from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Tustumena school parking lot. For further information, call me or 262-5291.
Bring a jack-o'-lantern to enter in the pumpkin carving contest and join the other guys and ghouls at the Decanter Inn's haunted swamp from 7 to 11 p.m. For more information or to volunteer, call 262-5917.
The Kenai Performers invite Kasilof folks to their presentation of "The Uninvited" at the Old Town Playhouse in Kenai on Oct. 29, 30, 31, Nov. 5, 6 and 7. Tickets are available at Charlotte's, River City Books and Coffee Roasters. My thanks to Mary Kennedy for the news.
With only 70 shopping days until Christmas, you might want to mark your calendar for the Kasilof craft fair Nov. 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kasilof Mercantile. Space is limited. To reserve your spot, call Nancy Russell at 262-5291.
Kasilof resident Holly Wiley is the host of Kasilof's KWJG weekly radio show, "Local Expressions." Airing at 91.5 on the FM dial Sundays from 1:30 to 3 p.m., the show features area authors, artists and musicians. For more information, call Holly Wiley at 260-5253.
Celebrating a birthday in Kasilof this week are Dick Sundvik, Jack Hill, John Torgerson, Keith Clancy, Collin Murray, Alicia Kruse and Briana Kitchen.
Happy anniversary to Bart and Robin Williams. They've been married 20 years.
Have a memorable day. If you would like to see your news here, call or e-mail me. Until next week, drive safely and God bless.
